Golden Gate Chow Mein
This recipe actually lists 1 teaspoon of monosodium glutamate among the required ingredients. This was the 1970's. My mother had a bottle of MSG in her spice rack.
Adding the MSG would defeat the purpose of entertaining on a shoestring unless one intends to throw out the guests within 15 minutes after the meal.
